HAIR TRANSPLANT SCAR?

FUT, FUE OR PLUG SCARS? WE CAN HELP

Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP) can help cover up scars left behind after a hair transplantation treatment or an accident, creating a seamless blend with the surrounding hair. Hair transplants are typically the most severe kind of hair repair considered by people suffering from hair loss due to the invasive nature of the surgical treatment and the high cost associated with it.

Hair is a fundamental part of our appearance and gives us pride and confidence. It can be shocking when hair begins to shed in unusual amounts and we see changes in our hairline or scalp. Although the causes of hair loss can often be identified by a physician, its treatments are often limited and not always effective.

There are two common methods of hair transplantation: Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUT involves the removal of a 6-10 inch strip of scalp where hair growth is abundant, while FUE involves shaving the back of the patient’s head before removing donor hair follicles one at a time.

BECAUSE SCARS DONT HAVE TO BE FOREVER

SMP creates the appearance of natural hair roots by implanting natural black ink into the scalp. Results can last up to 3 to 5 years before a touch-up is needed. The procedure is relatively painless and leads to a natural-looking outcome that can improve self-confidence.

For those who prefer shorter hairstyles, SMP can help create the appearance of hair follicles at the back of the head in cases where there are surgical scars. Similarly, SMP offers the appearance of complete hair for those with longer hair, effectively covering the scar so it is no longer visible.

However, the scar tissue can be quite thick and may not react to pigments the same way a normal scalp would. For typical treatments, you can expect 3 to 4 sessions lasting anywhere from 1 to 6 hours. Additional sessions may be necessary for surgical scar cases as we evaluate how the area has responded to the treatment. To achieve a mixed, natural look, extra SMP work will be performed in the areas on either side of the scar.

It is important to ensure that the wounds are fully healed both internally and externally before undergoing SMP to cover FUT/FUE scars. This process should only be performed a minimum of 8 to 12 months after the surgical treatment.
